You can see the desire and need expressed in her face. Her ears are slightly up suggesting both hope and anxiety. Her gaze laser focuses on the tennis ball that is floating closer to you, the viewer, with each second. She's asking you for...a little help!
I intentionally kept this painting simple and direct. Dog, ball, water. This minimal structure gives this little painting a clear and present crisis that even a child will understand. And it helps to pull you into the moment. The tennis ball is rendered accurately enough to draw your eyes down to it and then back to that long, longing face. And her face should tell you she HATES water!
