Little House on the Hill

Teaching myself how to paint means I regularly borrow ideas, compositions, and techniques from other painters whose work I admire.  Finding ways to apply these aids while making a painting my own is the trick.  In this painting, I found inspiration in a similar landscape composition (the artist is unknown to me) full of ideas I used to develop my own dramatic landscape.  I primarily used different sized paint scrappers fully loaded with paint to block in the main landscape elements.  Then I used large brushes and rags to develop nuances in color, tone, and texture.  The small white house on the hill is a theme I would like to explore in future paintings.
