(40" x 60") Diptych - Acrylic on Canvas.
Non-finito is a sculpting technique borrowed from artists like Michelangelo and Rodin, where a sculpture is left unfinished either on purpose or by happenstance. Either way, beauty and vitality can be found in some forms of incompleteness.
I adopted that idea as a mindset for this large fluid painting. Large quantities of very fluid paint were poured directly onto two adjoining canvases and allowed to run wild...as if on their way to the actual painting without ever getting there. Halting paint movement early in the blending process resulted in what you might consider an unfinished painting. Which leaves open the humorous but unlikely possibility that had this painting been completed, it would have been a masterpiece.
