Balancing dissimilar  and competing traits within a unified relationship might sound like the description of a good marriage, but in this case I am talking about this painting.  Here the dominant field of red is balanced with the rest of the composition without losing its distinctiveness and strength.  Yes, I am still talking about the painting and not marriage.
